UCLA Opens Their Season With A Win Over The University Of San Diego

The UCLA Bruins opened their season in San Diego with a win against the University of San Diego Toreros, 184.5 to 101.5. The Bruins continued to win 13 of the 14 events.

The Bruins kicked off the season with a 1-2 finish in the 200 medley relay at 1:43.77 and 1:45.40. Lauren Baker added the next win for the team, with a 10:05.85 in the 100 freestyle. Her teammate, Katy Campbell, finished second at 10:10.52.

Junior Noelle Tarazona won her first of two individual events, with a 1:53.27 in the 200 freestyle. San Diego’s Kelsey Leonard was a very close second place, finishing .05 behind Tarazona at 1:53.32. Tarazona’s second win was in the 100 butterfly, with a time of 56.55.

Linnea Mack won her first of two individual events with a 55.75 in the 100 backstroke, leading UCLA to a 1-2-3 finish. Jo Jo Winkler then won the 100 breaststroke for the Bruins with a 1:05.19. Mack won her second event with a 23.66 in the 50 freestyle.

Ting Quah won her first of two events with a 2:01.12 in the 200 butterfly. Her teammate, Katie Kinnear, was just behind her with a 2:01.66. Her second win of the meet came in the 500 freestyle, where she swam a 4:56.94, winning by almost 5 seconds.

Jessica Khojasteh won the 100 freestyle with a 52.52 to lead the Bruins to a 1-2 finish. Katie Kinnear swam a 2:03.61 to win the 200 backstroke. Ashley Tse posted a 2:21.40 to win the 200 breaststroke for a 1-2 finish for UCLA.

Keenan Lineback picked up the only win for San Diego. She swam a 4:24.29, finishing just ahead of UCLA’s Arlyn Upshaw at 4:24.76.

UCLA won the 400 freestyle relay to finish the meet.

UCLA will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 1 against Oregon State, UC Santa Barbara and Florida Gulf Coast. San Diego will be back in action on Nov. 2nd for a tri-dual with UC Davis and Oregon State.
