The U.S. women’s water polo coach Adam Krikorian has left Rio to be with his family after the death of his older brother.
Blake Krikorian, the co-founder of the video streaming device Slingbox, died Wednesday at the age of 48. The San Mateo County Coroner Robert Foucrault told the San Francisco Chronicle that Krikorian was found lying next to his car in the parking lot after paddle boarding in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The team told Rio2016 that Adam Krikorian plans to return to Rio on Monday.
Adam Krikorian was the coach of the 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist American water polo team, which will play Spain in its first game of the Games on Tuesday.
Both Adam and Blake Krikorian played water polo at UCLA, the school where Adam Krikorian later coached.
The Americans are the the heavy favorites to repeat their gold in Rio. Returning from the 2012 team to defend their titles are Melissa Seidemann, Kami Craig, Courtney Mathewson, and team captain Maggie Steffens. Among the newcomers are sisters Aria and Makenzie Fischer, Sami Hill, Maddie Musselman, Rachel Fattal, KK Clark, Kiley Neushul, Kaleigh Gilchrist, and Ashleigh Johnson.
