TYR Unveiled As British Swimming Partner

British Swimming and TYR SPORT have announced a partnership that will see TYR become the official kit supplier of British Swimming for the next eight years.

The exciting partnership with US-based TYR, a leading manufacturer of competitive swim and triathlon gear, will start from 1 January 2017 and will see TYR become the sole kit supplier across all of the aquatic disciplines within British Swimming.

The sponsorship deal will also extend across the home nation governing bodies of the Amateur Swimming Association, Scottish Amateur Swimming Association and Welsh Amateur Swimming Association.

Commenting on the announcement British Swimming Chief Executive David Sparkes said: “British Swimming is delighted to have partnered with TYR. Like us they are a high performance business and one which is focused on delivering the best technology swimwear for our athletes to ensure they can perform to their ability in the future.

“This long term deal will allow us to work together to innovate and build strong links for TYR into the British market.”

British Swimming Chairman Maurice Watkins CBE added: “We are all excited about our new partnership with TYR and look forward to working with them as we begin our journey towards the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics.

“British Swimming will continue to look for improvements in performance and we believe that TYR will be a strong partner as we pursue our ambitions of being one of the world’s strongest nations in aquatics sports.”

Founded in California by swimwear designer Joseph DiLorenzo (current owner) and 1972 Olympic bronze medallist Steve Furniss, TYR Sport was established in 1985. With global recognition and an international following, the brand is dedicated to building the industry’s most durable, uniquely designed swimwear, cutting edge equipment and innovative goggles.

“TYR Sport is honoured to become the official sponsor of British Swimming,” stated Chief Executive Officer Matt DiLorenzo. “As a brand we have the utmost respect for the work the federation does to enhance both the local and the international swim communities. Their success in the most recent Olympic and Paralympic Games is evidence that the British athletes and coaches are dedicated to making history, and we are enthusiastic about joining them in their efforts.”

TYR’s endorsement of British Swimming comes off the back of a summer in which its aquatic disciplines reached new heights on the Olympic and Paralympic stages in Rio.

British swimming achieved its best result for over 100 years at the Rio 2016 OIympics with six medals while diving achieved a greatest ever result with three. Weeks later the Paralympic team followed up with arguably its most impressive performance in the history of the Games with a total of 47 medals.
