Tyler Kopp Kicks Off West Fargo Futures with 2:01 200 Fly Personal Best

2021 Futures Championships – West Fargo

While the best in the world are competing in Tokyo this week, American swimmers at home are competing at Futures meets in 4 separate locations.

At the West Fargo, ND site of the meet, Nasa Wildcats 17-year-old Carly Novelline won the women’s 200 free in 2:01.98. The swim marked a personal best for Novelline by 0.05 seconds, taking her under 2:02 for the first time. Novelline got out to a a big early lead, and didn’t let that lead up through the rest of the race.

KATY’s Tonni McNeese finished 2nd in the 200 free in 2:02.30. McNeese pulled off a tough double, also winning the women’s 800 free on Wednesday. In the 800, McNeese clocked a 8:52.16. Both of McNeese’s swims were personal bests.

Arkansas’ Vanessa Herrmann took the women’s 100 breast in 1:09.29. That’s a new personal best for Herrmann by 0.07 seconds. Academy Bullets 14-year-old Elizabeth Nawrocki came in 3rd with a 1:11.85.

Lillie Nordmann took the women’s 200 fly in 2:11.64, winning the race decisively. The swim was well off Nordmann’s personal best of 2:07.43.

Jack Luken of Gold Medal Swim Club took the men’s 200 free in 1:52.53. The swim was a massive personal best for Luken, who entered the meet with a best from 1:55.03. Even more impressively, Luken’s previous best was from April of this year. Luken also won the men’s 1500, swimming a 15:53.55. That was also a personal best for Luken, taking 12 seconds off his previous best.

Aquatic Club of Enid’s Asa Stewart won the men’s 100 breast in 1:04.39. Stewart won the race after getting out to a speedy 29.91 on the first 50. KATY’s Tyler Kopp won the men’s 200 fly in 2:01.64. The swim was an enormous lifetime best for Kopp, who entered the meet with a best of 2:09.93.
