Kaitlyn Golyski, a swimmer for South Carolina’s Palmetto Aquatics, has verbally committed to swim for the University of Kentucky as part of its class of 2026. Golyski announced her commitment on Instagram:

Golyski, a rising senior at South Aiken High School, primarily specializes in sprint freestyle. At the 2021 South Carolina LSC Senior State Championships, she placed fifth in the 100 meter breaststroke, seventh in the 50-meter freestyle, ninth in the 100-meter backstroke and sixteenth in the 100-meter butterfly. She has Futures cuts in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle.
At the 2020 SCHSL 4A Girls Championships, Golyski won the 100 and 200 freestyle. This high school state meet is for a class of schools with 201-450 eligible students. She was also part of the third-place 200 freestyle relay and the fifth-place 400 freestyle relay. At the 2019 state meet, Golyski raced as part of the winning 200 freestyle relay and second-place 200 medley relay, and placed fourth in the 100 freestyle and fourth in the 100 backstroke.
Her best short course times are:
- 50 freestyle: 23.83
- 100 freestyle: 51.63
- 100 backstroke: 58.30
- 100 breaststroke: 1:07.24
- 200 freestyle: 1:52.09
Golyski joins Grace Frericks, Lucy Reber, Marin McKee, Stella Todd, Jordan Agliano, Lydia Hanlon, Paige Taber and Denise Phelan as incoming Wildcats for the 2022-23 school year.
The University of Kentucky is a member of the Southeastern Conference. The Wildcats won the 2021 SEC Women’s Swimming Championship, the first SEC title in the program’s history. The team posted a record-setting 1,124 points for the program, breaking five school records and producing 12 podium finishes.
According to the 2020-21 roster for the Wildcat women, Golyski would have the eighth fastest 50 freestyle, ninth-fastest 100 freestyle and the ninth-fastest 100 breaststroke.
Golyski will follow in the footsteps of women like Riley Gaines, who broke the school record in the 100 freestyle and won gold in the 200 freestyle last season. Gaines is a senior this year, though, meaning Golyski will miss training with her by just a year. Parker Herren, Caroline Szydlowski, Sophie Sorenson, Kelly Rodriguez, Kyndal Knight, Izzy Gati and Bailey Bonnett will also be departing after this season, leaving plenty of room for swimmers like Golyski to fill in gaps.
