Two Swimming Legends Making Program Debuts At Arizona St-Pacific Dual

Stockton, California – Arizona State University and the University of the Pacific men’s swimming team  will be competing against each other in Stockton, California this Saturday, October 3. This meet will also be the college debuts for two swimming legends: Simon Burnett and Bob Bowman.

Bob Bowman, the 2016 United States Olympic Team head coach and Michael Phelps’ personal coach, will make his debut as the Sun Devils new head coach and Simon Burnett, three-time British Olympian and the fastest man ever in the 200 yard freestyle, as the Tigers’ new assistant coach.

For Arizona State, they will be competing in their first meet of the year when they visit Pacific. The Sun Devils have five CSCAA Scholar Athletes on their roster, including first-teamer Hunter Atha. Arizona State’s men’s team set and currently holds six records last season, including a team-record 309 overall points in the Pac-12 Championships.

For the Tigers, they will have three returning All-American performers from last year, all of whom are juniors, and six returning seniors as well. They will also be welcoming six true freshmen and two redshirt freshmen; seven men and one women. Also returning for the Tigers in Cameron Franke, who set the top time for Pacific last season in the 100 Breast at 54.35.  Several other top performers are back, such as Curtis Klein, who recorded the second-best time amongst Tigers in the 100 Back and 200 IM at 49.55 and 1:50.84, respectively, and Miles MacKenzie, who set the second-best time in the 100 Free (44.84).

Pacific also has Olympic Trials qualifier, Stewart Harrison, in the 100 fly.
