Taylor Petrak of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania has elected to swim for The Ohio State University for the next four years. She told SwimSwam, “The personality and goals of the coaches and girls just made me want to be a part of the team!”
A two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, Petrak is a two-sport athlete for Ellwood City High School. In the winter, she is the lone member of her high school swim team, as they have neither a pool nor a team. At the conclusion of swim season she dons her track shoes and runs hurdles. Petrak made it all the way to the PIAA Class AA Girls Championships in the 300 hurdles last spring.
Petrak swims year-round for Butler County YMCA. She is a long-axis specialist, and has junior nationals-or-better cuts in the 50 free and 100 free. At the 2016 YMCA Long Course National Championships, Petrak finaled in the 50m free (6th), 100 free (5th), 100 back (20th), and 200 back (14th), and she anchored Butler County YMCA’s national-champion medley relay (in a rapid 25.94).
Her best times are:
SCY | LCM | |
50 free | 23.19 | 26.62 |
100 free | 50.33 | 57.68 |
100 back | 57.50 | 1:05.83 |
200 back | 2:02.12 | 2:22.27 |
Petrak will be a member of the Buckeyes’ class of 2021 with fellow-commits Hanna Grasser, Katie Trace, and Nicole Fye.
