Tulane grabbed 3 victories on the road this weekend, taking down West Florida, Air Force, and University of Arkansas Little Rock. Little Rock fell to West Florida (164-76), Air Force (168-66) and Tulane (194.50-43.50). Air Force beat Arkansas-Little Rock and West Florida (144.50-98.50), but fell short to Tulane (149.00-94.00).
Tulane:
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Tulane women’s swimming & diving team wrapped up the meet at West Florida with three more victories on Saturday. After sweeping the competition on Friday, the Green Wave finished ahead of their competition, topping West Florida 177-66, Air Force 143.50-98.50, and UALR 1940.50-43.50.
“We had another great day in the pool,” said head coach Katie Robinson. “We finish one-two in the medley relay just like we did yesterday, and we kept that momentum going throughout the whole meet. We had some great swims. A little bit different events today and some people did the same events. Those who competed in the same events improved from Day 1 to Day 2.”
Tulane again began and finished the meet with success in relay action, claiming the top two spots in the 200 medley relay to start things off and wrapped the meet up with a first- and third-place finish in the 200 free relay. The squad upped its total of top finishes from Friday, notching eight on the second day of action.
Alex Lakota had another strong day in distance action, finishing the 1000 free just behind Rachel Schneider (10:40.39) in fourth place, and later placed third in the 500 free with a time of 5:10.86.
Many of Tulane’s newcomers were again amongst the top finishers of the day. Paris Zhang claimed the 50 free (24.20) and was also the leadoff swimmer on each of the first-place relay teams. Shelly Zelnick earned second in the 200 free (1:54.62), before tying UALR’s Laura Ruiz Astorga for first in the 100 back (57.79). Lena Hayakawa was also a member of both top relay teams, while individually she added a second-place finish in the 100 breast (1:06.16).Emily Ramier rounded things out for the class in the pool with a second-place finish in the 400 IM (4:30.80).
Ellie Sills continued her success in the fly, tying for first in the 100 with a time of 56.25. Kaitlin Simpson was just behind her teammate, finishing third in 57.44. Mia Schachter claimed the 100 free (52.10), and was followed by Emma Lincoln in third (54.02).
Holly Grender and Joy Jason added top finishes for the Green Wave in the 400 IM (4:29.19) and the 100 breast (1:05.53), respectively.
In diving action, Caroline McCleary notched a fourth-place finish on the 3-meter with a score of 222.35, and Lauren Arnold was right behind her in fifth with a score of 220.60. Later, on the 1-meter board Arnold placed third with a score of 223.00. She was followed by McCleary in fourth (218.45) and Maren Kjell in fifth (214.85).
“Last year we had a similar meet at this time and we were weaker on the second day, but this year we were very strong on the second day.” Robinson said. “This shows that we are improving and moving in the right direction as a program. Next time we have back-to-back days of competing will be in Houston at the mid-season invite and we are looking to be very, very strong there as well.”
The Green Wave return to action on Saturday, Oct. 24. After two weeks of road competition, they welcome Vanderbilt to the Riley Center Natatorium for an 11 a.m. meet.

Air Force:
Results from Day One | Results from Day Two
The Air Force women’s swimming and diving team posted a 4-2 record at a quad-meet, Friday-Saturday, Oct. 16-17, in Pensacola, Fla. On Friday, Air Force beat Arkansas-Little Rock (184.00-52.00) and West Florida (144.50-98.50), while falling to Tulane (149.00-94.00). On the second day, Air Force defeated both Arkansas-Little Rock (168.00-66.00) and West Florida (143.00-100.00). Tulane defeated the Falcons for the second straight day (143.50-98.50).
On the first day, Genevieve Miller and Sara Menke placed 1-2 , in the 1650 freestyle. Miller won (17:19.40) while Menke was second ( 17:30.71). Miller also won the 500 free (5:04.21) while Menke was second (5:08.26). In the 200 free, sophomore Jinan Andrews won with a time of 1:53.68. Andrews also placed second in the 100 free (52.68). In the 50 free, sophomore Brianna Mount was second with 24.29. Freshman Emma Strom won the 200 IM (2:08.34) and placed second in the 200 backstroke (2:06.74). In the 200 butterfly, Jenna Tasic was second (2:04.17). Jessica Horn was second in the 3-meter diving with 231.25 points.
On day two, Miller and Menke again dominated the distance freestyle as Miller won the 1000 with a time of 10:36.38 and Menke was second (10:38.65). In the 500 free, Miller won (4:57.90) while Menke was second (5:10.08). Andrews won the 200 free (1:54.39) and was second in the 100 free (52.65). Schroeder won the 100 butterfly (56.25). Horn was second in 1-meter diving (230.70 points).
The Falcons host a tri-meet, along with the men’s team, against North Dakota, Colorado Mines, Colorado Mesa and CSU-Pueblo, on Sat., Oct. 24, at 1 p.m. at the Cadet Natatorium.

West Florida:
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida posted a second-consecutive strong day in the pool as the Argonauts closed out their opening weekend of action at the UWF Aquatic Center Saturday.
UWF went 1-2 in the 3-way dual, collecting a win over Little Rock 164-76, before falling to Air Force 143-100 and Tulane 177-76.
Junior diver Monica Amaral completed a perfect weekend, sweeping both boards on Saturday, including an NCAA Championships qualifying score of 267.30. Senior Josie McKee placed second in the 3-meter springboard with a season-best 228.75.
Sophomore Gabrielle Spangenberg swam the 100 breast in 1:06.83 was just out of first, while notching the eight-fastest time in the country among Division II athletes.
Freshman Pia Hulley posted a top 15 time nationally in the 100 Back for the second-straight day, touching in 59.74. She opened the meet as the leadoff leg in the 200 Medley Relay, helping the Argos to a time of 1:48.97 – the fourth-fastest in the country.
A day after swimming the fastest mile in the country, sophomore Madeline Pitt raced to the third-quickest 400 Individual Medley time in the Division 2, finishing in 4:34.01. She ended her sixth race of the 2-day session with a fourth-place finish and the ninth-fastest 500 Free in the country in 5:11.43.
UWF will return to action in two weeks when it travels to Tennessee for the Sewanee Invitational, Oct. 30-31.

Little Rock:
PENSACOLA, Fla. – Freshman Laura Ruiz Astorga grabbed the Trojans’ lone event win as Little Rock swimming and diving took losses to West Florida (164-76), Air Force (168-66) and Tulane (194.50-43.50) on Saturday.
Ruiz Astorga tied Tulane’s Shelly Zelnick for the top time in the 100-yard backstroke as she came in at 57.79, the fastest time this season for a Trojan swimmer. Shayna Underwood and Courtney Goff also raced in the event and took time of 11th and 16th.
Courtney Coe placed fifth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.32 while Cassie Sanchez came in 15th.
Tori Fryar finished sixth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.48. Ann Kharlamova finished 14th.
Emma Doll was the fastest Trojan in the 50-yard freestyle as she took sixth with a time of 24.83. Goff andKara Knapschaefer finished 12th and 13th, respectively.
Imre van Huyssteen took a time of 1:09.36 as she earned a sixth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. van Huyssteen’s time in the event is the fastest this season as she beat out the previous time set of 1:09.39 set by teammate Nuria Gallego Murcia who finished eighth.
Jinson Kang had the top time for Little Rock in the 400-yard individual medley as she finished seventh with a season-best time of 4:38.56. Kayla Grimm and Steph Lauer took 11th and 15th, respectively.
Samantha Gray placed seventh in both the one- and three-meter diving events. Gray scored 207.55 in the three-meter event before scoring 212.55 later on in the one-meter dive.
Fryar finished seventh in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.59 while Chelsea Ebert, Kharlamova and Knapschaefer placed behind her in 13th, 14th and 16th, respectively.
Anela Everett was Little Rock’s lone entrant in the 1,000-yard freestyle as she took ninth with a time of 12:02.82.
The first event of the afternoon saw the group of Ruiz Astorga, Gallego Murcia, Coe and Doll take fifth place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:50.78
The team of Coe, Ruiz Astorga, Fryar and Doll concluded the meet as they placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:39.61. The squad of van Huyssteen, Ebert, Kharlamova and Undwood took seventh while Knapschaefer, Sanchez, Gallego Murcia and Goff finished 11th.
Little Rock returns to the pool against Missouri Valley Conference-foe Evansville on Nov. 7 at 11 a.m., in Evansville, Ind.
