Tulane Grabs Another Top-Notch Commitment from Gabby Vieira

Gabby Vieira of the CSP Tideriders has given her verbal commitment to the Tulane Green Wave starting in 2016-17. After Tulane received a huge verbal from Olivia Johnson, whose current best times are faster than Tulane school records in more than one event, Vieira’s announcement is equally exciting.

Vieira’s Top Times

  • 50 free – 23.83
  • 100 free – 51.61
  • 100 back – 55.01
  • 200 back – 2:00.12
  • 100 fly – 54.02
  • 200 fly – 2:01.73

Vieira is a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 100 and 200 back and 200 fly, and is a Winter Nationals qualifier in the 100 fly. The times in bold above indicate an instance where Vieira is faster than the Tulane school record. At last year’s AAC Championships, Vieira would have A final-ed in any backstroke or butterfly event, and would’ve been runner-up in the 100 butterfly. Don’t forget that she excels in sprint free; she would’ve B-finaled in the 50 and 100 free last season with her current bests.

This commitment is another huge boost for Tulane, who could feasibly have more than 5 school records erased by freshmen (Vieira and Johnson) alone next year. Vieira will likely find herself on all four of the sprint relays with the talent she’s already displayed as a current high school senior.

The Green Wave finished 4th out of 6 teams at conference last season– with big-time commits like Johnson and Vieira, they will have a great shot to move up over the next few years and challenge perennial powers like SMU.
