Torri Huske Posts 50.49 100 Fly, Also Wins 400 IM (4:11.26) at NCAP Invite

SwimSwam initially published an erroneous report which said that Torri Huske broke the 15-16 NAG record. Huske is 17. 

Tonight’s NCAP Invitational session was highlighted by 17-year-old Torri Huske‘s 100 fly win, a best time of 50.49 to move her to #4 all-time in the 17-18 age group. The Arlington Aquatic Club sprinter hit a best by almost a full second, coming down eight tenths from her old best of 51.29. NCAP’s Phoebe Bacon was second in 51.75, a lifetime best, and NCAP’s Abby Harter clocked a 52.54 for third.

Huske just turned 17 a week ago, so she has roughly two years left in the age group. She’s now just three-tenths back of Olivia Bray‘s NAG record of 50.19, while Kate Douglass (50.30) and Regan Smith (50.45) are the only other 18 & under American women in history who have been quicker than Huske tonight.

For more context into Huske’s swim, her time would’ve taken fifth at the 2019 NCAA Championships. She still has a year and a half of high school before she enters the NCAA, though, and has yet to publicly announce an NCAA verbal commitment.

Bacon, who dropped from 52.33 to 51.75 in the 100 fly, went a best time in the 100 breast earlier in the evening. She was 1:00.39, showcasing her impressive versatility and taking a huge chunk from her best time (1:01.27). The 100 breast winner was Anna Keating of Machine Aquatics at 1:00.02, while Harter was third in 1:01.22.

Huske came back at the end of the session to win the 400 IM with a 4:11.26, touching just ahead of NCAP’s Catherine Purnell (4:12.43).

OTHER NOTABLE WINS/SWIMS

• Chloe Stepanek of LIAC went 1:45.51 to take the open 200 free. LIAC went 1-2 in the 13-14 girls 200 free, with Tess Howley (1:47.35) edging Cavan Gormsen (1:47.55); they would’ve gone 2-3 in the open age group. Suburban Seahawks’ Lainey Mullins was 1:48.98 for third. All three are 14 years old.
• Mullins also won the 13-14 400 IM, going 4:22.03.
• Howley followed up her 200 free victory with a win in the 13-14 100 fly, clocking a 53.71. Kris Lawson of NCAP dominated the boys’ 100 fly, going 50.58 to win by nearly three full seconds, while NCAP 15-year-old Landon Gentry won the open race in 48.44.
• Thacher Scannell of Greenwich YMCA was 1:38.24 to win the men’s open 200 free. In the B-final, 15-year-old JuanCarlos Castrillon went 1:39.87 to win.
• 12-year-old Bryce Gold dominated the 11-12 girls’ 50 fly (26.45) and 50 breast (30.28).
• Eric Liao, 16, of NCAP, was 3:55.59 to win the men’s 400 IM.
