Torri Huske Gives Stroke Analysis on 55.6 100 Fly

2024 TYR PRO SWIM SERIES – SAN ANTONIO

2022 World Champion and American record holder Torri Huske clocked a massive 55.68 in the 100 fly at the San Antonio Pro Swim this weekend. This was Huske’s 2nd fastest performance ever in the event and only .04 off her best time. After the race, Huske described the work she’s done to have consistency in her butterfly stroke over the course of the season.

I think that the gold in the Olympics will be for Walsh because I think he will have a world record in trials, Huske will probably be on the podium and we cannot rule out Wattel who is in his country and still has a good PB 56.14

You think it’s between Walsh, Huske and Wattel? That’s an interesting choice, ignoring all 3 Tokyo medallists

so you really decided to forget about MacNeil, who went 55.59 at Tokyo?

Here’s something i’m curious about: Gretchen Walsh had the best NCAA’s in history, 20.3/44.6 free and 47.4 fly. Do we think that 47.4 100 fly will translate to something crazy in the LC pool? I think what was very interesting about her scy swim was that she breaths off every stroke and into the flags. Usually athletes who are better scy swimmers are better at the technical stuff, so maybe Walsh is actually a lot more of a natural 100 flyer than we think and it’s not all underwaters

If you’re swimming 15m on every turn you kind of need to breathe every stroke or you won’t breathe at all

Torri Huske and Gretchen Walsh both had really bad relay splits in Fukuoka, but have looked great so far this season. Do you think either of them should be put straight onto a relay final in Paris, or should they have to earn a finals spot by swimming in the prelims?

Depends, Huske has not mastered the flying start consistently during her career, Walsh actually is usually known for her good relay splits, so i think it really depends on who goes a better time in the final. Ik that both weren’t near their PB’s on the relay last summer, but even with a 57.0 split the U.S. will win

Do you mean in Fukuoka or Paris? Yeah US would have won Fukuoka anyway with a 57.0, very doubtful that will be enough in Paris.

More than one swimmer will likely go under Sjostrom’s 100 fly WR in Paris.

Maggie Macneil just said in an interview uploaded yesterday “you definitely haven’t seen the last of me after Paris” even though I’m pretty sure she sais she’ll retire after Paris so she may be sticking around yet

She has won everything and it seems she wants that one before she retires: Sjostrom’s 100 fly WR.

Hasn’t MacNeil only been as fast as 57 this year?

In 2021 Maggie broke 57 for the first time at the end of May. She’s faster now than she was at this point before Tokyo.

No guarantees but MacNeil always saves it for the final. She’s literally only been 55 twice and both times won her a gold medal.

Is she still in Baton Rouge with Rick Bishop? Or has she returned to Canada?

I think it will be Zhang Yufei vs. Huske, with Kohler, G. Walsh, and MacNeil as dark horses.

I’ll never think of Maggie as a dark horse. Don’t forget about Emma Mckeon either. Two of the best championship racers ever. It’s going to be one of the best races this Summer.

McKeon has no chance of winning the 100 Fly.

She never seems 100% satisfied with her results. Which is a good thing! She’s always looking for small ways to get better. Love to see her doing so well after a bad summer last year.

Good thing to a point. Definitely have to make sure you are still able to recognize and celebrate the things you’re doing well even as you strive to improve. Some super driven individuals can forget to do the second half of that.
