3 months into her gap year from Stanford (while still training in Palo Alto) and Torri Huske is already seeing the payoff. After going lifetime bests in the 200 IM and 50 free last night in Greensboro, Huske took the win tonight in the 100 fly, touching in a new meet record of 56.21. After a busy spring of 2023 that saw Huske fall behind in recovery and affect her end-of-summer performances, the time off from school seems to be helping the 2020 Olympian in the pool.
I was bummed Torri wasn’t on the finals relays in the W 4 x 100 FR-R and 4x 100 MR at worlds.
Nothing against either of these ladies, but why did the coaching staff pick G Walsh over Huske? I know Huske’s mixed medley split was a bit off, but she definitely deserved to be in the finals of the 400 FR-R.
Huske just did okay at WC 2023.
After doing butterfly heats she lead off the 400 free relay prelims with 53.51..she deserved to be on final relay. But G.walsh lead off the final 54.06..
Huske took bronze, yes its not her best time, a sec off..but was okay..
Many are talking on that mixed medly butterfly split..fink took an extra strock and husk almost got DQ. But she is a safe and reliable relay swimmer..if anyother swimmer were there, the team would have DQ.
Women medley, her heat swim split of 57.42 is just cool since I hope huske knew, they would gonna use G.walsh over Huske.
But these results on Open, make me happy..well done!
Torri proving once again that she is the best butterflier in the United States
Could’ve put “cruel summer” in the title

Balancing academics and other life commitments that come in college is, in my opinion, a big reason why many swimmers stagnate or even regress in college. Nice to hear someone talk so candidly about it.
You don’t NEED to take 15 hours per semester (or whatever quarter-system equivalent is) is if you’re an athlete…you can make up for it in the summer or graduate a little bit longer than four years. Of course, this also isn’t always possible, especially if you’re on a scholarship and need to finish in four years. There’s a lot to consider, and everyone really should just have an individualized game plan for every semester/quarter.
Hard to do if some class you need is offered once a year.
I agree that academics and athletics are an extremely difficult combination. Add in the pressure to perform at Huske’s level and I can not imagine how impossible it must feel. Just the idea of being able to get the sleep that she needs to recover instead of spending hours doing homework must relieve so much stress. Good job Tori on prioritizing what is important to you.
Anyone know how her and Claire’s relationship is? Looked awkward on the awards podium.
When Claire left it seemed sweet per the Instagram comment Torri did on her post. The comment made it seem like they were good friends.
I hope they are good friends..🤗
I remember Torri was really bummed for Claire when she didn’t make the team at trials. No need to try to manufacture a drama out of it.
They were going to live together for this year before Claire decided to transfer. They’re good friends.
