The Top 16 Women in Each Event at 2017-18 NCAA Midseason

We’re now through the second round of NCAA midseason invites and it’s time to take a look at where the division 1 teams stand. SwimSwam has put together a list of the top 16 times in each event up to this point. The lists in this article only include top times for the women. The men’s rankings can be found here, and the scoring analysis of the men’s teams at midseason can be found here.

Keep in mind that while compiling these rankings, a couple of swims occasionally slip through the cracks, so let us know in the comments if we’ve missed anything. SwimSwam will be using these rankings to score out a mock NCAA meet based on the midseason results.

A few things to consider:

  • A few of the top swimmers who are likely NCAA finalists may be missing from events. For example, Stanford’s Simone Manuel was missing and Ella Eastin didn’t swim the 200 IM at Art Adamson. Ohio State’s Liz Li has been out for the Buckeyes.
  • Some swimmers are ranked in the top 16 in more than 3 events. These swimmers will only be scored in 3 of those events when we score out the meet. The scoring article will be up soon.
  • While a couple of division 2 swimmers may be among the fastest in the country, the purpose of this article is to identify the top 16 division 1 swimmers in each race.
  • Some schools had more than one relay make the top 16. Only the fastest relay from each school was counted.
  • Diving is not included in these rankings

(Note: The times listed are from the USA Swimming database, so if any swimmers are missing from the list that should be on it, we’ll update accordingly.)

Beata Nelson is looking good after having a rough freshman season. The #2 recruit in the nation (& multi-time NAG record holder & National High school record holder) not scoring at NCAAs was an underreported story imo.
Janet Hu is seated in the top 10 in 5 events… what a beast. Also it sucks for Katie McLaughlin that her two best events (100 fly & 200 free) are back to back at NCAAs. Louise Hansson is in a similar predicament.

So Virginia has gone from a distance heavy team to a sprint heavy team within a year?

Tea rex

1. What will Hansson swim at ncaas? Almost (almost) Coughlin-esque times in fly/bk/fr, but only 16th in the IM.

2. Who is looking better – Amy Bilquist or Claire Adams? Will they both swim both backstrokes?

3. A&M with FIVE swimmers in the 2 br (I think the most? Stanford has 4 in the 500.) Related, I think Pickrem has a good shot to win a NCAA title

Weitzeil is making a comeback. Could be dangerous this year. Happy for her.

Bailee Nunn from Drury would be 10th in the 100 breast at 59.63 from the Mizzou Invite

Hi Lauren, nice article. Will SwimSwam be scoring the women’s meet?

it’s crazy that UVA is third in the 200 and 400 free relays, but not even top 16 in the other three relays!

Interesting. I hadn’t noticed. Looks like they are just under 2 tenths in the 200 medley relay from 16th right now, so they almost had 3 in the top 16.

UVA didn’t swim the 800 free relay at the Georgia Invite. If you add up their flat start times, they would be 9th.

No Lilly King in 200 breast?? Also, no Stanford in 800 free relay??

King swam a 2:10.9 at Purdue Invite. I’m sure she’ll make a huge drop from that, but as of now she sits outside the top 16.
