In my opinion, a lot less events seem like “face offs” this year as opposed to previous WC/Olympics. We’ve used to matchups like Lochte vs Phelps, Park vs Sun.

People were advertising the 2012 Olympics as the match up between new faces and those on the brink/coming out of retirement. I disagree- THIS is going to be the Olympics for that. Many of the old faces right are are residual from 2008 or even before. The young faces are gracing the NCAA championships or are European teenagers. The stars from 2008/2012, have more or less fallen down to earth (Phelps, Lochte, Sun..etc) creating way for the newest generation

We will still have many battles to watch>

50 free:Sjostrom vs Halsall vs Campbell sister vs Kromowidjojo and Cielo vs Manadou vs Fratus vs some newcomer
200 free:Ledecky vs Missy vs Sjostrom
The 4×100 free relays both men and women will be unforgetable.
the 100 Fly of Le Clos vs Phelps.. Many Many races to be seen..

I think the NCAA finals from this evening will crack the top 10 and the Olympics in rio will completely re write the top 10

And reading through the Olympics posts, quite a number of people were pretty confident Phelps will unretire 2 years before Rio and focus on the the 100 free, 100 fly and 2im. And guess they were right!

Shows how swimswam has contributed to building up our sport. 10-15 years ago this was unfathomable. The sport of swimming has come a long way.

No doubt about it.
Many promises changed they level to powerhouse in their events(Ledecky, Campbell…)
Some new ones in meteoric rise(Sedov,Proud…)
And others already “the man to beat” like Peaty.
