Tom Shields has been untouchable this weekend in Glasgow at the 2013 Duel in the Pool. Yesterday he made the 100 butterfly look like an age group race, taking a body length lead off the start. Today, he continued in dominating form in the men’s 200 butterfly, winning the event with a time of 1:50.61. The second place finisher from Europe touched the wall at 1:52.06.
Shields held the previous American record in this event. This summer, he posted a time of 1:51.31 at the World Cup meet in Berlin, Germany. His 200 butterfly today was after a second place finish in the 100 backstroke to his American teammate, Eugene Godsoe. Shields’ time in the 100 backstroke was 50.18, only .1 behind Godsoe.
Shields attended in every World Cup this year. It means quite a lot of competing in short course. It surely helped to get the best out of him at Duel.
I would be very surprised to see how he does next year on LC meets because i feel it’s time for him to shine . He would be a great force for the Future of Usa butterfly with Godsoe , Lochte and few others . Well done Thomas , u are the Man .
