Noah Brune Scrambles Up to #6 All-Time in 13-14 Rankings in 1500 Free

2016 FUTURES CHAMPIONSHIPS – STANFORD

The men’s 800 free relay came down to the final touch between Walnut Creek and Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics. That touch went to the Walnut Creek Aquabears, who got a big 1:51.33 anchor out of UCSB sophomore Mason Tittle to finish on top with a 7:35.19. Walnut Creek touched out PASA by just 16 hundredths– PASA’s Alex Liang provided a strong 1:51.71 split on the 2nd leg, and PASA ended with a time of 7:35.34.

The women’s 800 relay went to the Santa Clara Swim Club in 8:19.88, getting 2:03-low 1st and 4th legs out of Cathy Teng and Sophie Krivokapic-Zhou, respectively. Tualatin Hills Swim Club finished 2nd in 8:20.59.

Ryan Falk, who would later swim a 2:06.00 on the 2nd leg of Tualatin Hills’ 2nd place 800 free relay, earned a lifetime best by 7.53 seconds in the 800 free to grab the win. The Washington State commit touched at 8:52.57, well ahead of the rest of the competition.

In the men’s 1500 free, the race was even tighter than the men’s 800 free relay. 17-year-old Brooks Fail, unattached, went into the wall with a hard-charging Noah Brune of Mission Viejo. Brune, just 14 years old, powered home in 28.70, but it wasn’t enough to touch ahead of Fail, who won it in 15:45.14.

Brune, meanwhile, settled for 2nd at 15:45.17, just three hundredths behind. He dropped a whopping 18 seconds from his previous best time, making it his first venture under 16 minutes. Before the meet, Brune was ranked 22nd in the 13-14 age group rankings for this race– he now ranks 6th.
