Ticketmaster Shares More Information About US Olympic Trials Refunds

Ticketmaster, which is the official ticket vendor for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials (which are being held in 2021), emailed all ticketholders on Friday with information about how to receive a refund for the event.

USA Swimming announced earlier this week that, because of limitations on seating that would reduce the capacity of the CHI Health Center to about 50%, they would be refunding all tickets for the event and starting over with sales.

Existing ticketholders will have the first crack at resold tickets, beginning on April 16.

  • For the original announcement, including ticket resale dates, click here.

The Ticketmaster emailed included answers to some of the lingering questions: Ticketholders will be refunded via the method of payment used at time of purchase.

While, given the gap since purchasing those tickets, this will create some headaches for some people. Ticketmaster’s documentation explains the process as such:

If refunds are approved by, and funds have been received from, the Event Organizer, we will issue a refund to the original method of payment used at the time of purchase, which is usually completed within 30 days. We cannot issue a refund to a different credit or debit card (this includes refund requests made through the self-service option).

If your credit card or debit card number has changed, but is for the same account used at the time of purchase (e.g., a new card has been issued for the same account), the refund will be processed to that account.

If the account you used to make your original purchase has been closed, we recommend you check with your banking institution or credit card company to make arrangements with them to receive your funds.

If we find that there is an issue processing your refund, one of our Fan Support Representatives will attempt to contact you to resolve the issue.

Please note, the same rules apply to tickets purchased with a Gift Card. Refunds must be returned to the original method of payment used at time of purchase.

  • If you used a Ticketmaster Gift Card, you can find your refund balance in your online account. Once signed in, click “Credit and Codes”, then “Gift Card Balance” and enter in your Gift Card number and PIN.

  • If you used a non-Ticketmaster Gift Card (Visa, MC, etc.), you will need to contact the Gift Card Issuer (found on the back of the Gift Card) to make arrangements with them to receive your funds.

Hi live event fan,

Thank you for your purchase of a ticket to the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming and your continued patience as organizers diligently plan for the rescheduled event at the CHI Health Center in Omaha in June 2021.

2021 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming
CHI Health Center Omaha
June 13-20, 2021

In an effort to deliver the safest competition possible and to mitigate the potential spread of COVID-19, the CHI Health Center seating map has been reconfigured, reducing daily session attendance capacity for the Olympic Trials in 2021 to approximately 50%.

Due to these new health and safety precautions, we will be unable to honor your tickets for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming. Your tickets will be automatically refunded on Friday, April 9, via the method of payment used at time of purchase. You should see this credit within the next three to five business days.

While we regret to have altered your original plan, we are pleased to offer you exclusive first access to All Session and Daily tickets within the new physically distanced arena configuration for the Olympic Trials event in June.

As an original ticket purchaser for the Olympic Trials in Omaha, you will have two (2) exclusive pre-sale opportunities for both All Session and Daily tickets, with the Daily tickets providing access to the morning preliminaries and evening finals on a single day. These windows of opportunity are further detailed below. You will receive an email with the ticket purchase link a few days prior to the All Session tickets pre-sale from the event presenter This ticket purchase link is non-transferrable and may only be used once per pre-sale event.

Seats will be sold in physically distanced pods of two (2), four (4), or six (6) seats. Fans may purchase up to six (6) tickets for each session and tickets will be sold on a first-come first-serve basis.

In January, event organizers announced that the new Olympic Trials will be split into two events at the CHI Health Center Omaha – Wave I from June 4-7 and Wave II from June 13-20. The Wave II event will determine the U.S. Olympic Swimming Team selected for the Games in Tokyo.

The following outlines each tickets sales date:

  • April 16, 2021 at 10 a.m. CT – All Session tickets pre-sale for Wave II
  • April 21, 2021 at 10 a.m. CT – All Session tickets for Wave II released to the general public
  • April 23, 2021 at 10 a.m. CT – Daily tickets pre-sale for Wave II
  • April 26, 2021 at 10 a.m. CT – Daily tickets for Wave I and Wave II released to the general public.

Due to the reduced number of tickets, we highly encourage you to take advantage of your pre-sale opportunity.

We thank you for your understanding and look forward to welcoming you to this event.

I still have not received the code to purchase tickets. I previously purchased 3 All Session tickets for 2020 which I received emails about being refunded and that a code would be sent. No code was sent via email. This is really frustrating. Are others still facing this issue? Can anyone at USA Swimming help? I submitted a request for help to Ticketmaster, no response. 🙁

If you purchased the tickets from a different agency (SeatGeek in my case), how are you supposed to get the access code for the presale?
