Thomas Fraser-Holmes, Lauren Boyle And Bronte Campbell All Come Home With Wins At 2014 Queensland Championships

The 2014 Queensland Championships are currently underway down under in Australia, and have displayed some pretty fast results from some of the Aussies’ top world-class swimmers.

Madelin Groves kicked off the day three finals of the Queensland Championships with a win in the 200m fly. Groves was a 2:10.82 to take down Keryn McMaster who posted a 212.26 en route to second.

In the men’s 200m fly final there was a very close race between three swimmers: David Morgan, Ad Mallett and Thomas Fraser-Holmes. Morgan won the race in 1:58.80 coming back strong in the last 50. Mallett was second in 1:59.36 securing a 1-2 finish for TSS Aquatic with Fraser-Holmes third in 1:59.43.

Fraser-Holmes had a quick turn-around to win the mens 200m IM in 2:00.04. He was a 25.56 on his fly split going out and a 30.68 on the backstroke. He led by a large margin at the 100, and kept his lead with Jared Gilliland finishing behind him in 2:02.84, just narrowly holding off Tommaso D’Orsogna who clocked in at 2:03.04.

Lauren Boyle of New Zealand rocked a decently fast in-season 800m freestyle with a 8:25.93. The distance star beat out both Jessica Ashwood and Kareena Lee with Ashwood going a 8:29.07 and Kareena touching in at 8:40.91.

Bronte Campbell was a 24.96 in the 50 freestyle final over Brittany Elmslie who was just out-touched by two one-hundredths. The two girls were way out in front as Sara Saal almost finished a full second back in 25.94 taking third.

Nineteen-year-old Luke Percy took the men’s sprint title in 22.86, being the only swimmer under 23 seconds. David Morgan who won the 200 fly was first in 23.16 followed by Alex Press in 23.30.
