In the last men’s event of the night Hugo Morris led off the Auburn squad on the 4×200 freestyle relay, and upon touching the wall broke a 34-year-old Rowdy Gaines school record in the 200 freestyle.
Morris touched in at 1:33.39 breaking the 34-year-old record of 1:33.80 that legendary swimmer Rowdy Gaines set all the way back in 1981. Not only was the time fast, but the record couldn’t have come at a more opportune time as today is Gaines’ 56th birthday.
The Auburn squad ended up finishing second overall in the event behind Florida with a time of 6:15.14 which also landed them under the NCAA ‘A’ time.
Gaines is now the second fastest Auburn performer all time in the event, and sits at eighth overall in the 100 freestyle with the 42.38 he also swam in 1981.
