Katrina Radke (Dear Katrina) talks with Nort Thornton, Olympic Coach, and legend, about the mental game. This part of our conversation shares great wisdom on what makes people great, as well as some good books.
I personally remember him always sharing new audio tapes (yes, audio tapes was what was around in the 80s :)) with the swim team, to enhance performance.
Tips: watch others to learn how to be your personal best, appreciate your effort (vs. talent), study the best in different fields to see how they did it, fake it til you make it, and more.
Additionally, Katrina’s book shares many peak performance tips and exercises to help the athlete.
Nort Thornton’s successes are numerous: He has been a long-time Cal Men’s Head Coach (now Head Coach Emeritus with Head Coach Dave Durden and Yuri Suguiyama, Assistant Coach, and coach to Olympic Gold Medalist and American Record Holder, Katie Ledecky), won several NCAA Championship titles as a coach at Cal Berkeley, coached about sixty Olympians, and the most impressive: He has been coaching almost sixty years!
