The Big Short: Sam Short Buzzing with Fast Times at Olympic Training Camp

2024 PARIS SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES

2023 world champion Sam Short seems to have bounced back after a sub-optimal showing at the 2024 Australian Trials. Short suffered from a stomach bug during the Aussie trials but was still able to qualify for the team in his 3 primary events (400, 800, and 1500 free), an experience he is now grateful for.

“Looking back that was probably, uh, pretty good for me, like mentally. It was a good learning experience.”

Short spoke with the media during training camp in Canet, where he was excited about logging multiple fast times in practice.

“Done some really solid sessions, I’m feeling really good and um, been putting up some fast times.”

What a nice level-headed dude.

Pleased that the kid even knows about Boy Charlton from 100 years ago.

I was impressed enough that he mentioned Superfish!
An incredible swimmer, but very sadly he was one of the numerous disappointments for Aust in Montreal (e.g Boyle DQ, Men’s Hockey).
Legacy/public recognition today would be quite different if he’d won, instead of getting the bronze.

Was in Brisbane this time last year – had to ask if they missed the memo about it being winter – was lovely and warm!

No one else had an Australian QT so he’s allowed to swim it.

This is a good sign but I had hoped he would be more emphatic about being at 100%. He seems somewhat non-committal compared to his usual high confidence
