The 2015 SEC Championships began in earnest on Tuesday morning with the first session of time trial races from the James E. Martin Aquatics Center on the campus of Auburn University.
While these results won’t factor into the scoring of the meet, they will start to build some buzz around the meet and also can earn spots for the NCAA Championships.
The big highlights thus far have been a pair of School Records. One came from Vanderbilt sophomore Kayla Moran, who swam a 23.43 to break her own school record of 23.48 done at last year’s SEC Championship meet.
The other came from Texas A&M freshman Brock Bonetti, who swam a 1:43.23 in the 200 backstroke. That broke Simon Frank’s year-old program record of 1:43.66, but is still shy of what it took to qualify for the NCAA Championships in this event in each of the last two years.
Full time trials results (with splits).
Florida:
- Main split – 19.48
- Dressel split – 18.96
- Homer split – 19.86
- Curby split – 19.77
Would the 4×50 medley relay be the same as the 200 medley relay. Duh
I really hope dressel isn’t shaved w/ a split like that
Oh going 18 with a .4 reaction time swimming with not competition in a time trial is sooo bad.
I just expected more from a kid who does that with a flat start when he was in high school…. That’s all 🙂
Dressel had a really slow reaction time at .43, particularly for a time trial when you don’t have to worry about what a DQ might do to the standings.
Corey Main with a great lead-off! I think he will be the anchor of choice for the 4×50 medley relay (with dressel on fly)
Jacob Wallace did backstroke for his 50 freestyle.
Do you have the splits for the relay?
ole99 – splits added above.
Why would Florida do a 2 free relay? Seems a little unnecessary
Probably to see how Homer (new addition to this relay) and Curby (just returned for the Tennesee meet after several months out) would fare.
Could a number of things
* simulate prelim swim
* see how the order fairs
* practice the exchanges in the same environment
It is sometimes good to get a swim under your belt
They previously did not have a B cut (barely missed an A cut here). Swimmers are limited to 5 relays. Maybe they are planning to not use some of these swimmers on this relay at SECs and wanted to get an NCAA qualifying time here. Also, in time trials, you can be a little more risky with starts.
