Jack Dunworth of Austin, Texas has verbally committed to swim at the United States Naval Academy next fall. Dunworth is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Westlake High School in Austin. He concentrates on 50/100 freestyle races in high school, and was a member of the Westlake 400 free relay that came in under the Texas high school and Texas 6A all-time record last February, only to be out-touched by Southlake Carroll. Still, Dunworth split a 44.8 on the second-fastest 400 free relay in the history of Texas high school swimming; it was the fourth-fastest 400 free relay in the U.S. last year. Their 200 free relay was 21st in the country.
Dunworth swims year-round for Austin Swim Club. He had a strong summer season, picking up new PBs in the 100/200/400m freestyles, and qualifying for Junior Nationals in all three events. At 2016 Speedo Summer Juniors Dunworth finished 32nd in the 100m free, 22nd in the 200m free, and 25th in the 400m free. He dropped 0.2, 0.3, and 8 seconds, respectively in the events, ending the year with LCM times of 52.76, 1:53.96, and 4:02.49.
His best SCY times:
- 50 free – 21.45 (20.87 relay split)
- 100 free – 46.04 (44.89 relay split)
- 200 free – 1:40.26
- 500 free – 4:39.23
Dunworth will head to Annapolis with fellow verbal commits to the Navy class of 2021: Cole Cooper, Luke Johnson, and Timothy Verby.
