Zach Gunn, the number two recruit out of the state of Texas, will head east to join the Georgia Bulldogs next fall. Collegeswimming.com ranks him as the #14 recruit in the country.
This is the third huge recruit for the Georgia men, following verbal commitments from #5 Chase Kalisz and #16 Matt Ellis.
Gunn comes to Georgia as a big-time breaststroker with bests already of 55.98 and 1:58.56 in the 100 and 200. In the long course versions of those races, he’s already earned his Olympic Trials cuts.
The addition of Gunn and Kalisz makes three ultra-elite breaststroke recruits for Georgia in two years (in addition to Nic Fink, who is a freshman this year). All of a sudden, breaststroke is going from a big hole for them to a big strength.
Coach Jack Bauerle now needs to really focus on bringing in sprint freestylers, as that’s where the Bulldogs’ biggest needs will be if they want to push higher into the top 10.
Gunn swims club for Nitro Swimming in Austin, which is one of the fastest-rising clubs in the country.
