College Station, Texas—Texas A&M will host teams from all over the country this weekend in the annual Art Adamson Invitational, which memorializes legendary Texas A&M swim coach Art Adamson.
Adamson was one of the longest tenured coaches in Texas A&M athletics history, coaching the Aggies more than 35 years from 1934 to 1970. During his time at Texas A&M, Adamson coached All-Americans and Olympians, while leading the Aggies to multiple conference team championships. He was inducted in the Texas A&M Athletics Hall of Fame in 1970, as well as the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame and the Texas Swimming Hall of Fame.
The Art Adamson Invitational is slated for Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 19-21 at the Student Recreation Center Natatorium. Entrance into the event is free of charge.
Preliminaries for the swimming competition will be held every morning at 9:30 a.m. followed by finals at 6:00 p.m. each night.
The diving competition will be staggered throughout the three days of competition. On Thursday, the men’s 1M preliminaries will take place at noon with the final immediately following. The women’s 3M prelims will begin at 3pm with the final occurring during the evening session. On Friday, the women will compete on the 1M at noon with the final immediately following. The men will begin 3M prelims at 3pm with the final occurring during the evening session. On Saturday, the men’s and women’s platform competition will be held simultaneously at noon.
