Texas A&M Secures Verbal Commitment from Thad Dickerson

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Winter Juniors qualifier Thad Dickerson has announced his verbal commitment to join the Texas A&M Aggies this fall. Dickerson was a three-year captain of the Homeschool Christian Youth Association where he was named to the Texas Interscholastic Swim Coaches Associations All-State and Academic All-State teams. He was also named as a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.

A native of Magnolia, Texas, Dickerson will provide depth in a multitude of events for the Aggies. His best events are the 200 and 400 IM, where he holds Winter Juniors cuts. Last summer, while swimming for his club team, the Premier Aquatics Club of Klein, he was a finalist in both at the 2019 NCSA Summer Championships. He finished 27th in the 200 IM (2:09.54) and 26th in the 400 IM (4:36.46).

This spring he competed at the Sectionals meet held at Texas A&M, lowering his best time in multiple events. He dropped nearly three seconds in the 400 IM, lowering his personal best to a 3:56.94. He also took a second off of his best 100 back time to finish in 50.50. To conclude the meet he added a best time in the long course 100 free (52.78), after touching in 45.61 in prelims. The meet was swum with prelims in short course and finals in long course.

Best SCY Times

  • 100 back – 50.50
  • 200 back – 1:51.98
  • 100 free – 45.49
  • 200 free – 1:43.01
  • 500 free – 4:37.02
  • 200 IM – 1:50.52
  • 400 IM – 3:56.94

The Aggies finished in 2nd at the 2020 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships, falling only to Florida. They were led by sophomore Shaine Casas who won both the 200 IM nad 200 back, as well as taking second in the 100 back. His 1:37.20 in the 200 back was good for an SEC record (formerly held by Ryan Lochte) and moved him into 5th fastest all time.

In large part due to Casas efforts, the IM was an area of strength for the Aggies last season. They outscored all other teams in the 200 IM, with Casas taking gold and Coco Bratanov and Alberto Gomez taking the top two spots in the B-final.

Last fall Texas A&M announced that the swimming and diving team’s spaces, including the locker rooms, coaches’ 0ffices, athletic trainin space, dryland space and fueling space, would be undergoing rennovations beginning immediately. This is the 2nd time in the past three years that the aquatics facility has seen major improvements.
