COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Texas A&M men’s and women’s diving teams dominated on the first day of competition at the Air Force Diving Invitational Thursday, posting a pair of first-place scores and advancing a combined seven Aggies to the finals.
Aimee Wilson and Victor Povzner highlighted the day for A&M, each taking first in their respective springboard events. Wilson picked up the first win of the day for the Aggies, posting the top score in the 3-meter final, 352.00, for her sixth win of the season. Povzner and teammate Kurtis Mathews made it a 1-2 finish in the men’s 1-meter final, with Povzner scoring 433.55 to take first, while Mathews took second with a score of 426.40.
Alyssa Clairmont and Chloe Ceyanes also advanced to the women’s 3-meter final, as Clairmont placed fourth with a score of 304.70 and Ceyanes took sixth, scoring 293.20. Payton Props added a second-place performance in the 3-meter consolation final with a score of 279.20.
After top-eight scores in prelims, newcomers Allen Bottego and Rhett Hensley earned spots in the men’s 1-meter final. Bottego finished the day in sixth with a score of 309.45, and Hensley placed eighth with a score of 265.60. Kyle Sanchez and Shane Mardick competed in the 1-meter consolation final. Sanchez placed third with a score of 298.60, while Mardick took seventh with a score of 267.15.
The Aggies return to action Friday, with the men competing on the 3-meter and the women competing on the 1-meter. Prelims are set to begin at 11 a.m. CT. Live results can be found here, and the meet will be streamed live on here. Follow @aggieswimdive on Twitter for updates throughout the meet.
