Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Jackson Huckabay from the Central California city of Tulare has announced his intention to swim for the University of Texas beginning in the fall of 2021.
He told SwimSwam, “I’m just extremely blessed to have been given this opportunity to really reach my full potential. I’ve had many lost opportunities like everyone else and I’m just excited to finally start going to meets to show what I can do!”
A senior at Kingsburg High School, Huckabay last swam for his high school in 2019 when his brother Joshua Huckabay, who currently swims at Biola University, was a senior and they broke school relay records together. Their final record was at the 2019 California CIF State meet at Clovis West High School where they and two teammates lowered their own program mark in the 200 free relay.
In addition to swimming for Kingsburg his freshman and sophomore seasons, Jackson also played water polo for the Vikings.
Huckabay swims for Clovis Swim Club. He picked up new lifetime bests in his first racing opportunity in 16 months when he swam at the 18&U Winter Championships hosted by Lakeside Aquatic Club in December. There, he placed 6th in the 50 free (20.65), 10th in the 100 free (45.35), 13th in the 200 free (1:39.46), and 21st in the 200 IM (1:53.98).
This spring, he added new times in the 500 free (4:38.80), 100 breast (59.20), 100 fly (51.53), 200 fly (1:58.47), and 400 IM (4:11.73) at a series of Clovis intra-squad and dual meets.
Jackson is the second of four brothers in the Huckabay family. Their father Ryan Huckabay swam at Cal Poly.
Best SCY times:
- 50 free – 20.65

I swam with his dad in college and he was one of the hardest workers I’ve ever known. If Jackson is anything like him he exceeds expectations. Congrats!
Kid works HARD. Well deserved. Congrats Jackson!
Eddie saw something in the kid that made him to offer him a spot. Welcome to Texas Jackson 🙂
He isn’t a walk on?
Still need to get a spot on the team
Letting him have a lane is different than giving him a scholarship
We get it. There’s levels. Scholarship, commiting to swimming (getting in a lane), walking on.
He at least fits in the middle, and possibly the top – but does it really matter? He’s on the team, congrats! Shoot for the moon kid!
This kid is quick and has a lot to be proud of. But he isn’t getting money, is he? I am with you, it doesn’t matter, shoot for the moon. The only reason it is worth bringing up is because some kids have unrealistic ideas about scholarship money that is out there…
Walking on at Texas, is a scholarship at most others. He probably turned down a few.
Hmmm.
You rang?
