TCU Topples The Falcons; Freshmen Performances Stand Out

The Horned Frog women returned to competition yesterday against Texas-Permian Basin, and this time they were joined by the men’s teams. TCU came out on top in both competitions, with the men winning 116-81 and women finishing out with 114-77.

 

Men’s Meet: 

On the men’s side, the Horned Frogs finished out on top in the 500 free  with sophomore Carlos Hunnicutt touching the wall in a 4:42.35. He was followed by teammates Rhorer Legendre  and Connor Dobbs to claim all top three spots in the event.

Tommy Thach claimed top honors in both the 200 IM (1:52.58) and 100 free (46.55). Thach is one of many freshmen that has stand out performances at the meet yesterday. He was a five time state champion in Washington and is expected to contribute to the Horned Frogs in freestyle and IM events.  His performance in the 100 free gives him the 12th fastest time in school history.

Falcon’s senior David de Benito Cabezas finished second in the 100 fly in a time of 51.68.

Women’s Meet: 

Devin Newton, who came in second at yesterday’s pentathlon competition,  came out on top in the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.00. Newton is not only the school record holder in this event, but she also has four of the top eight top times in school history. Her performance yesterday was 8 seconds off of her school record time of 2:00.64.

Mikayla Winkler, who is starting out her senior year for the Horned Frogs, finished first in the 200 freestyle, clocking in at 1:54.69. Mikayla is also the TCU school record holder in this event.

The Falcon’s season will continue next weekend when they face off against Wayland Baptist at home. The Horned Frogs return to action when they will host Liberty/Incarnate Word on Oct 9.
