Taylor Ruck Takes Down 200 Back Canadian NAG at English Nationals

2017 SWIM ENGLAND NATIONAL WINTER CHAMPIONSHIPS

Canadian swimmer and Stanford commit Taylor Ruck dropped significant time in both her 100 free and and 200 back, picking up the Canadian 15-17 National Age Group Record (NAG) in the 200, at the 2017 Swim England National Winter Championships on Saturday.

Smith is one of a few National Team Toronto-based swimmers competing in England this week under Head Coach Ben Titley.

In the 200 back, Ruck won the event by over three seconds, going 2:06.87. Her previous best was 2:07.62, swum in July 2017 at the Canadian Junior Championships. Her previous best time doubles as the previous NAG.

1st 50 2nd 50 3rd 50 4th 50
Ruck 2016 NAG 30.19 32.1 32.58 32.75
Ruck 2017 NAG 30.07 31.86 32.53 32.41

She is now within a second of Kylie Masse‘s 2:05.97 Canadian record.

In the 100 free, Ruck split 25.33/27.63 for a 52.96, winning her event by 1.8 seconds. Her previous best was 53.92, swum at the 2015 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships. She remains a ways off of Penny Oleksiak‘s 52.70 NAG, set in 2016.

Ruck also tied the 200 free Canadian record to kick off the meet last Wednesday.

Taylor Ruck is now the second junior female swimmer to swim the 100m freestyle under 53 seconds. So only two juniors ever have, and they’re both Canadian. That’s likely a great sign for Team Canada in Tokyo.

Ruck’s previous best for 100 Free was a 53.63 leading off Canada’s relay at 2017 World Junior Championships. A 52.9 (swam after a 2:06 200 Back) is absolutely huge!

Taylor grew up in the States. If she were American- wouldn’t this 100 Free LCM time break Simone Manuels NAG?

Yes, and she’d be the 3rd fastest American of all time.
