Day 7 Heat Sheets
Canada’s Taylor Ruck has scratched out of heats of the 50 free on day 7 prelims at the 2019 World Championships.
Ruck has already scratched one individual event this week: the 200 free, where she was one of several very notable scratches. Ruck was the 2018 Commonwealth Games and Pan Pacs champ in that 200 free, and was the Commonwealth Games silver medalist in the 50 free.
She did compete in the 100 free and 100 back individually, finishing 5th and 4th, respectively. She’ll chase her first individual medal tomorrow night in the 200 back, where she qualified in 7th place for the final. The 50 free would have been a double with Canada’s mixed 4×100 free relay on Saturday morning, but perhaps the bigger factor is that qualifying for 50 free semifinals could have set up a potential triple Saturday night with the 50 free semis, the mixed free relay final and the 200 back final.
Ruck hasn’t yet medaled individually, but has been good on relays, helping Canada take bronze in both the women’s 4×100 and 4×200 free relays.
There weren’t many other notable scratches. Sweden bowed out of the mixed 4×100 free relay, and Croatian distance man Marin Mogic no longer appears on heat sheets in the men’s 1500 free.
Scratches from circle-seeded heats, day 7 prelims:
Women’s 50 Free:
- #8 seed Taylor Ruck (CAN)
Mixed 4×100 Free Relay:
- #9 seed Sweden
Men’s 1500 Free:
- #20 seed Marin Mogic (CRO)
I don’t think this is very surprising. She had a big potential program, she had a banner year last year but doesn’t seem to be quite at the same extremely high level.. she has had very good results ( bronze 4×1 – she had the fastest split of the team, 4th in 100 back and 5th in 100 free) but probably not as high as the expectations coming in. I was a bit surprised she stayed in the 200 back but has made the final and likely will have another good finish. She can rest a bit for the medley relay, unless she is called upon for the mixed relay.
