Taylor Ruck Breaks 38-Year-Old Age Group Record Set At 1976 Olympic Games

Taylor Ruck took down a legendary Canadian 13-14 age group mark tonight in the finals of the 400m freestyle, claiming fourth with a time of 4:13.51.

That time erased the previous record held by Shannon Smith. Smith set that record at just 14 when she won the bronze behind Shirley Babashoff at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal.

In the morning session Ruck came very close to breaking the record with a 4:16.30. Going into finals she was the second seed.

Ruck, who trains at the Scottsdale Aquatic Club in Arizona, now holds Canadian records in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 back, 200 back, 200 free (which she set at this meet), and the 400 free.
