Jay Baker, who hails from Durham, North Carolina, has verbally committed to the in-state Tar Heels for the fall of 2021. He will join Walker Davis in the class of 2025.

Baker is a versatile IMer who has a Winter U.S. Open cut in the 400 IM, Summer Juniors cuts in the 100 back and 200 back, and Winter Juniors cuts in the 1000 free and 1650 free. A junior at Durham School Of The Arts, he won the 500 free (4:29.96) and was runner-up in the 100 back (49.38) at the 2020 NCHSAA 1A/2A State Swimming & Diving Championships. He also led off the 7th-place 200 medley relay (23.52 backstroke) and split 21.81 on the 15th-place 200 free relay.
Baker does his year-round swimming with North Carolina Aquatic Club. He recently earned PBs in the 200 free and 1000 free at Cary Sectionals, a month after having produced PBs in the 50/100 back and 500 free at high school States. In December, Baker swam the 500/1000/1650 free, 200 back, and 400 IM at Winter Juniors East. His times in the mile, 200 back, and 400 IM were lifetime bests. At 2019 Speedo Junior Nationals, he competed in the 200 back and 400 IM and took home new times in the 100 back and 400 IM.
