Sydney LaQue Verbals To Defending Northeast-10 Champs Assumption

The Assumption College Greyhounds have added to their defending Northeast-10 champion roster, earning a verbal commitment from New York’s Sydney LaQue.

LaQue is a natural freestyler and should fit right into the Northeast-10 conference based on her previous bests. LaQue’s lifetime-bests in the 200, 500 and 1650 frees would have put her into the top 8 at last year’s conference championships.

LaQue’s Top Times

  • 1650 free: 18:02.56
  • 500 free: 5:13.24
  • 200 free: 1:56.69
  • 100 free: 55.01
  • 50 free: 25.69

In addition to her prowess as a distance swimmer, LaQue should factor into several relays for Assumption. She would have made the team’s conference champion 400 free relay last year, and her 200 time should make her an obvious candidate for the 800 free relay, though the Greyhounds’ teams last year in both relays were made up of two freshmen and two sophomores.

LaQue is also an accomplished backstroker, with times of 1:01.93 in the 100 and 2:11.31 in the 200, both of which are Northeast-10 scoring-level times.

Assumption competes in the NCAA’s Division II in addition to the Northeast-10 Conference. The Greyhounds dominated the conference a year ago, winning by over 300 points. They are now the two-time defending champs, and have a shot to make that a streak of three by the time LaQue arrives as a freshman next fall.

LaQue swims for the Schenectady-Saratoga Swim Club out of New York, and will wrap up her senior year before joining Assumption next season.
