SwimSwam Pulse is a recurring feature tracking and analyzing the results of our periodic A3 Performance Polls. You can cast your vote in our newest poll on the SwimSwam homepage, about halfway down the page on the right side, or you can find the poll embedded at the bottom of this post.
Our most recent poll asked SwimSwam readers who would win the SEC rivalry match between Auburn and Alabama:
RESULTS
Question: Who will win this weekend’s dual meet:
- Auburn men, Bama women – 11.1%
- Auburn men, Auburn women – 27.8%
- Bama men, Auburn women – 47.2%
- Bama men, Bama women – 14.0%
SwimSwam’s weekly poll saw almost half of votes favor the Alabama men, but it was Auburn that swept both men’s and women’s duals this weekend at home.
47.2% of voters selected the Alabama men and Auburn women to win the SEC rivalry dual. Just over a quarter of voters predicted an Auburn sweep. The Alabama women were considered much bigger underdogs heading into the meet, at least based on poll results. Only 14% suggested an Alabama sweep while only 11.1% predicted the Alabama women would win while their men’s team lost.
It was Auburn that triumphed by fairly wide margins on both sides. Michael Duderstadt won two key battles with Alabama’s Pavel Romanov and Anton McKee to sweep the breaststrokes, while Joe Patching ran the table in the 200 back and 200 IM. Luis Martinez also swept the butterfly races. For the women, star freshman sprinter Julie Meynen was clutch, with wins in the 50 and 100 free, plus anchored two big relay wins for Auburn.
