I’m a swim film festival fan, and I love this short film, this short swimming video, Ice Swim, captured by Shoestring Productions.
I am always on the lookout for great swim videos. If you have an interesting or beautiful swimming-related video and/or animated short, please submit to Gold Medal Mel Stewart at swimswam to be featured. We appreciate all points of view on pools, lakes, rivers and oceans. Please include a little background on why you captured the video and the equipment you used (cameras, lens, editing software, etc.). Feel free to add your own story as well, 175 to 200 words works best.
From the producer:
The Ice Swim Africa is a unique, annual extreme swimming event at Nuwedam, Fraserburg, Northern Cape. 15 swimmers attempt to swim 1 mile in 5°C water. An additional 20-30 swimmers attempt to swim 600m.
Swimming in these temperatures is very dangerous if not life threatening. We wanted to really focus on the extremities and capture the essence of real endurance, as well as the very challenging mental mind set that goes into preparing and completing
Visually showing the extremities that the swimmers will be forced to deal with is a huge part of this film. If the viewer gets a true sense of just how cold and dangerous this challenge can be then I think the film has succeeded in captivation the viewer
