Regarding the Big Ten meet; the discussion about the unpredictable swim by Nyah was news worthy. The back to back championship performances by Bach and Romano were also worth talking about; plus the emergence of Fulmer as an elite sprinter and 200 freestyler were very instrumental in the win.
Haven’t watched yet, but I wanted to go ahead and put it out there that I will make sure to pick the opposite of any picks Coleman makes since he picked against both the Tennessee women (‘Roll Tide’ was his comment I believe) and, most shockingly, the NC State men. You know Braden Holloway and much of that team, and you thought Louisville tasting victory last year made them hungry? How could you discount the rabid hunger of an angry (and immensely talented) pack of wolves? I think DeSorbo must have slipped you a control chip in your pancakes to pick against the Pack men!
As I gathered from the video, he also picked against the Ohio State women, so…
Is the Coleman Curse becoming a thing? Texas better watch out, if Coleman picks them for BIG 12’s, then this might be the year WVU takes the crown
Want to point out that Coach Dorenkott’s decision to leave Nyah off the roster was not as bad as it seems. The lowest scoring roster spot was 28 points. (There was a diver who scored 26, but she was only 1/2 of a roster spot.). If Nyah repeated all of her morning swims at night, she would’ve scored 31 points. That’s only a difference of three points. Great job by Nyah and great job by the coaches managing tough roster restrictions.
Hm! That’s a great point.

At least Braden and Coleman still have their hair…
No, they are burdened with it.
Since going for the buzz, I have so much more time to comment that I instead would have been spent coiffing my locks.
Just want to point out that Coach Dorenkott’s decision to leave Nyah off the roster is not as bad as it seems. The lowest scoring roster spot scored 28 points (a diver scored 26, but she was only 1/2 a roster spot—the two divers scored more than 60 points from that roster spot). If Nyah had repeated all of her morning swims at night, she would’ve scored 31 points. That’s only a three point difference. Awesome job by Nyah and a great job by the coaches managing tough roster limitations.
Would’ve liked a mid major section discussing likely qualifiers
Many of the mid-major conference meets are coming up this next week, so I think it’s a big pre-mature to have that discussion. It’s a good suggestion for next week though.

SEC-you didn’t mention UF men won by almost 500 points without 2 studs!!! Braden mentioned UGA men beating Stanford possibly. That could be just based on the Big 3 (Sates, Magahey and Luca) but other than their 800 free relay, they might not got any other relays into the A finals. And don’t see many other UGA swimmers getting many points. How many points can 3 guys score?
In the women’s side of SEC, I think the conference isn’t as strong at the top end as it once was! I don’t think any will be Top 5 at NCAAs.
ACC-UVA women=versatile. Someone mentioned Kate having to choose between 100 free and 200 breast but hardly anyone mentions… Read more »
Agree in the main but look out for the Tennessee women. They are on an upward trajectory with significant recruits committeed. I would make a side wager that they will have at least one swimmer place in the top 5 at NCAAs.
No doubt! They have a few elite studs!
I read it as no SEC team will finish in the top 5, not individual swimmer. The team question (regardless of intent) is the interesting one – obviously it’s very likely multiple SEC women will individually finish in the top 5 (White, Walshe just to name two) – but team-wise I agree that 6th is probably the top SEC team finish. To finish top 5, you have to beat at least one of UVA, NCST, Texas, Stanford, and Cal, which I just don’t see happening. Then there is also Michigan and OSU to contend with.
1-2-3-4 finish in the 500 was 100% the “Bernadino” Factor!!!!!!
