The Swimming Way of Life, Video Feature

Swimming video is courtesy of Kreable Young.

At SwimSwam, we receive a lot of emails to post videos or photos or to cover certain swim meets. Sometimes we get emails that just make us smile. The one below from Taylor Counter is my favorite so far this month.  Swim coaches are sacred my in my opinion, so meaningful in our lives, and Taylor clearly feels the same way… Thanks for the video, Taylor! Loved it!

From Taylor Counter (her email)

Sharing the love of swimming is not only important, but moving. I am a swimmer for Western Kentucky University, and one of my best friends Kreable Young (a former swimmer for WKU) is one of the many photojournalists at our school and recently did a piece on former head Coach of WKU swim and dive team, Bill Powell. Powell started the program in 1969 and was the head coach for 36 years before stepping down. In that time, he captured 425 total victories, giving him the second highest total wins in NCAA mens division I swimming history. He also had 15 conference championships in three different leagues and captured 10 Coach-of-the-year awards.

Even after his retirement, after 36 years of coaching for WKU, he remains in and around the pool nearly everyday. The video piece on Coach Powell is a short, but meaningful reason as to why we love swimming. Once a swimmer, always a swimmer. It would be so cool if you guys could share this short video, I really think the swimming community would enjoy because we can all relate to the love of water.

If you have an inspiring, interesting or entertaining swimming video you’d like to share, please send to SwimSwam.com

How is I have never heard of this wonderful gentleman? 425 victories? Amazing! I am especially fascinated by the fact that he had to swim just to get around everyday. That is awesome. I can hardly think of a better, healthier way to grow up.
