After an investigation into misconduct and subsequent tribunal hearing on Wednesday, Swimming Victoria is fining a member club, Melbourne Swimming Club (MSC), $10,000 for failure to comply with COVID-19 lockdown restrictions in September and October of 2021.
Swimming Victoria’s tribunal found that MSC violated clause 9(c) of its constitution, which requires member clubs to “act in good faith and loyalty to each other to ensure the maintenance and enhancement of the standards, quality and reputation of (Victoria) Swimming…”
MSC has been ordered to pay Swimming Victoria $10,000, half stemming from the fine and the other half reimbursing the cost of the investigation and hearing. The club has until Nov. 17 to deliver the payment, or else further sanctions will be handed down.
Last August, Melbourne entered into its sixth lockdown of the COVID-19 pandemic. The city’s five million residents spent 262 days total in lockdown — more than any other city in the world — before stay-at-home orders were lifted in late October of 2021.
