Swimming New South Wales 2016 State Age 13-18 Champs Highlights

Day 1:

Yesterday saw the start of some swift action in the pool for the evening’s final session.

Se-Bom Lee of Cherrybrook Carlile swam the 14 Years Boys 200 IM in spectacular fashion to overcome the might of Nick Jennens of Carlile and his team mate Finn O’Connor. Se-Bom swam an impressive 2:11.95 which was a touch under 3 seconds faster than his heat swim in the morning.

The males were in fine form and SOPAC’s Connor Bracken was no different. Connor triumphed over an impressive field in the Boys 13 Years 200 Breaststroke to win gold in a time of 2:28.94.

The 1500 Freestyle turned out to be an epic battle for the 15 year old Boys. Steven Kokokiris of Sladem came away with the title after a hard fought battle with Frederick Brown of Barker and Justin Lee from Cherrybrook Carlile. Steven charged forward in a time of 16:49.55 with Frederick in on 16:51.27 and Justin .31 behind the silver medallist.

Leon MacAlister of Carlile was awarded swimmer of the night for his 200 Backstroke which he swam in a swift 2:04.45 and was a real treat to watch. Lewis Blackburn of Ravenswood and Myles Bailey from Woy Woy swam hot on his heels to take out the silver and bronze.

Day 2:

Olivia Adams of Ravenswood and Sarah Welfare of Sydney University raced head to head over 8 laps. Olivia pulled through to win the girls 400m Freestyle. Zac Attard of Cherrybrook Carlile added to his medal tally, winning the boys 400m Freestyle.

The 13 year old males were in fine form with Cooper Ritchie of Cherrybrook Carlile and SOPAC’s Connor Bracken battling it out in a hard fought race in the 200m IM.

Monique Rae of Ryde Carlile and William Yang of Knox Pymble were both very convincing in winning their respective 100m Backstrokes.

NSW’s 16 year olds lead the excitement last night with some very quick swimming in the 50m Freestyle. Nathan Meacham of Ulladulla and Deborah To of Trinity Grammar won their events in 23.97 and 26.59 respectively. In the 16 years 100m Breaststroke Bec Cross of Ginninderra and Nathan Zhu of Trinity Grammar pulled off some impressive wins.

The night finished with some very exciting relays which saw the girls from Abbotsleigh and the boys from Trinity Grammar take out the 13/14 years 4 x 50m Freestyle relays.

The 18 & Under 4 x 100m Freestyle relay was won very comprehensively by the ladies from Ravenswood. The men from Cherrybrook Carlile had to fight a hard battle to hold off strong finishes from SOPAC and Wests Illawarra Aquatic.

Our Swimmer of the Day, Nick Jennens (Carlile), was in superb form, giving beautiful performances in the 200m Backstroke and 1500m Freestyle.
