Women’s 200 IM – Prelims
Dutch teenager Marrit Steenbergen is the top qualifier in 2:14,02 which is a new National Youth Record and also under the FINA A cut (2:14,26). With 15-year-old Serbian Anja Crevar, who won the 400 IM yesterday, Germany’s 16-year-old Maxine Wolters who won the gold medal at the 2015 Baku European Games in 2:13,37 and Germany’s Julia Mrozinski (16, gold medalist in the 200 m butterfly at the Baku European Games), three more fast teenagers will join tonight’s final. The Junior European record of 2:11,03 was set by Turkey’s Viktoria Gunes at the Junior World Championships 2015, and the Junior World record is a 2:10.22 from China’s Zhou Min.

Jacob Heidtmann is the top seed in the 400 IM – Heidtmann is a 2015 World Championships finalist in the 400 IM where he earned a respectable fifth place.

Germany’s Jenny Mensing swam the fastest 200 m backstroke time in the morning heats in 2:15,58. Kira Toussaint, who set three new event records over the last two days in the 100 m backstroke, finished second in 2:15,68 ahead of Sonnele Öztürk – an 18 year old German backstroke talent.

Germany’s Caroline and Alice Ruhnau are sisters, both start for the SG Essen: Caroline Ruhnau is 31 years old and she won the gold medal in the 100 m breaststroke at the 2009 European SC Championships. Alice is the “little” sister, also a breaststroke specialist – she is 21 years old.
Men’s 100 Fly – Prelims
Joeri Verlinden showed a great performance in the 100 m butterfly: he clocked 52,36 – that is exactly the FINA A cut. Second and third into semifinals are Israel’s Guy Barnea and Singapore’s Geoffrey Cheah – both train at Club Wolverine.
Women’s 50 Fly – Prelims
Some very famous ladies competed in the non-Olympic 50 m butterfly – Ranomi Kromowidjojo won the prelims in 25,63, followed by Maaike de Waard and Denmark’s Jeanette Ottesen and Germany’s Dorothea Brandt. These ladies will join them in tonight’s final: Kim Busch, Elinore de Jong, Kimberly Buys, Josien Wijkhuijs.
Men’s 50 Back – Prelims
Yesterday, the 200 m backstroke were on the men’s schedule – Christian Diener, Germany, won the event ahead of his teammates Carl-Louis Schwarz and Felix Wolf. In today’s prelims of the 50 back, Carl-Louis Schwarz touched for the win in 25,76. Netherlands Martin Ruiter and Jelle Betten BOTH set a new Netherlands Junior Record in 27,57 – for sure a rare incident.

In a time trial at the end of the prelim’s session, Pavel Janecek (Czech Republic) swam a new meet record in 4:18,34.
I’m not familiar with the Dutch selection policy, but if Inge Dekker was healthy enough is there any way for her to qualify for Rio?
Inge Dekker did met the qualification standard at the world champs in Kazan last year.
Dutch athlethes had three qualification opportunities: World Championship in Kazan, Swimcup Amsterdam last December and this Swimcup in Eindhoven. And there will be one splash and dash and that is the Europen champs in London. Swimmers who have qualified for London, can have a final go at the EC. However, there is one major but: Swimmers can only qualify for Rio, in case an event has after the first three qualification opportunities 1 or less qualified athlethes. So the 50 and 100 Freestyle ladies are given away after this weekend. Qualification standards for London are less strict then for Rio.
