A friend of swimming recently made a short clip of Carlisle Bay, the open water swim location, so have a look! He shot the video on a day when some of our junior swimmers were out racing. Carlisle Bay, is a magnificent, yet tranquil, crescent shaped bay, lying in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and bordered by one mile of white sand beach. Recently, Sir Anthony Bamford, chairman of JCB, said of Carlisle Bay, “Its one of the most beautiful beaches in the world”. Not only is the Bay picturesque it is also home to a proliferation of tropical fish, turtles and plant life that enjoy the protection of this “marine park”. On an open water swim here it is quite common to run into a friendly turtle or catch sight of a sea horse, octopus or colourful school of fish.
