Chinese star Sun Yang has won his 3rd event of the meet so far at the 2015 Chinese Spring Nationals in Baoji, swimming a 7:47.58 to lead the world, easily, in the event so far this year.
That victory adds to earlier wins in the 200 and 400 meter freestyles, and while all three have been good results (at the time of his swim, he led the world in the 200 and the 800), his shorter races continue to be a notch above his longer races at this juncture.
Despite that, he still won this race comfortably by 7 seconds ahead of Wang Kecheng (7:54.80).
Sun again was the highlight of the 4th day of the meet, though he wasn’t the only swimmer to move into the world’s top 5 – and for that matter, the rest of the day’s races were much more competitive.
In the men’s 200 fly, Hao Yun swam a 1:57.26 to just out-touch Wang Pudong (1:57.30), which moves the pair into 3rd and 4th in the world this year. Asian swimmers, specifically Chinese and Japanese swimmers, now occupy the entirety of the world’s top 5 in an event where an Asian has never been the long course World Champion.
The men’s 50 breaststroke title went to Shi Weija in 27.62, touching-out 1999-born Wang Lizhuo (27.79). Both swimmers were within a few tenths of the Chinese National Record, which was set in 2013 by Gu Biaorong, who was not a factor in this final.
The only women’s final of the day was the 200 free, which was won by Shen Duo in 1:57.05.
Top three from all of Day 4’s finals are below.

Sun Yang is currently not world’s 800free no. 1
Mack Horton split 7:47.36 in his 1500 swim, which is still world’s no. 1
In the interview after 400 free swim, Sun Yang said that he felt very tired without a proper taper and also may be due to the high altitude (1300 meter).
1300m altitude! Does that affect your performance significantly ?
If the 3rd placed athlete in mens 200 IM really is just 15 years old, then it would be a crazy new junior world record by about 2s, this just would be completely insane.
That is super quick. Can’t find the meet results, but is the 100 BR swimmer and the 200 IM swimmer the same 15/16 year old?
No there is no 15 year old in 200 IM. I think the article refers to Li Zhuhao, the 15-year old flyer.
Li Zhuhao is 16 yo.
Asian swimmers occupy top 5 world 200 fly? Hao time is slower than kaio time who was second on Maria lenk the top 2 are seto and de Deus now
I think it should be 200 IM instead of 200 fly. Obviously 1.57 is far too slow to make it into top 5 of the world ranking.
A 15 year old went a 1:00.3 in the breast?!
Pvk – yep, though he was born in 1999, so he could be a very young 16-year old.
that’s just insane. Vissering was just 1:01.9 as a 16 year old.
I agree that its an insane time for a 15 year old, but you shouldnt compare those times to american times, since breaststroke is clearly the weakest stroke in us swimming.
The entry sheet lists him as born in 1998. I saw on weibo that he had birthday yesterday. That would put him as an exact 17-year old. His PB in 100 BR prior to this meet was 1.02.06 at the national championships last September. I heard he only started to specialize in breaststroke last year from an IMer.
I wish pictures would post up on the comments section because I would definitely post one of those not a singe f was given that day pictures. A Chinese teenager going a fast breaststroke time is totally irrelevant.
it’s actually a hair slower than Mack Horton’s 800m split off his 1500m.
Hao Yun swims fly? his 400m free was pretty bad but I guess he rebounded
15 year old Wang Lizhuo? anybody know his 100 time?
Is that 1:57 a best for Li Zhuhao?
Lizhuo was a 1:00.3 earlier in the meet in the 100 breast.
That is a new WR Junior timing of 1.00.33 for a 17 yrs.
Mack Horton was also slower than his 800m split in the 1500m, when he swam the 800m race.
Hao Yun was “forced” to train 200 fly by his coach, when he saw the vacuum in this event after the retirement of Wu Peng and Chen Yin. Personally I think it’s a short-sighted decision. His freestyle is dead now which will affect China’s 200 relay team. Though he wins the 200 fly in this event, the time is not impressive at all and Li Zhuhao may overtake him soon.
Li Zhuhao is actually a 51.x in the 100 fly which is probably his best event. He won the 100 fly last year as a 15 year old and swam at the Asian games.
