The University of California, Santa Barbara got a huge lift earlier this week when they garnered a commitment from Streamline Aquatics swimmer Haley Herzberg. Herzberg’s times in freestyle events will have an immediate impact for the Gauchos:
- 100 free SCY- 51:68. LCM 58.41
- 200 free SCY- 1:49.07 LCM 2:04.63
- 500 free SCY- 4:52.09 LCM 4:23.31
Both the 200 and 500 freestyle times would have placed in the A-Final of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation in 2015. The 100 freestyle would have been just outside, but she also would have been Santa Barbara’s best swimmer in the 200 and 500 last year.
I chose UCSB because of the great academics and how well I got along with the coaches and the team. The campus is so beautiful and I can’t wait to be a Gaucho!
Herzberg has improved steadily over the last few years and her long course times listed above from this past summer continue to show her progress. She has qualified for the Summer Junior nationals in the 200 free. She had great success in two years of high school swimming for Churchill in San Antonio, Texas, winning a state championship in the 400 freestyle relay in 5A her freshmen year and making an individual state final in both the 200 and 500 her sophomore year.
In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Herzberg is also a high achieving student who has twice been named to the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American team.
