Summer Juniors Finalist Billy Swartwout Commits to Princeton

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Billy Swartwout from Amityville, New York has announced his verbal commitment to the application process* at Princeton University. He will join Xander Gardner in the class of 2024, the first recruiting class for new head coach Matt Crispino.

“I’m excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Princeton University. I wanted to attend the school the moment I stepped on the campus eight years ago. I chose Princeton because it offers its students unlimited opportunities and its nationally ranked swim program provides an environment allowing its athletes to excel. I would like to thank Coach Matt Crispino and Doug Lennox for this unbelievable opportunity, all my coaches and teammates at Long Island Aquatic Club for helping me achieve what I never imagined possible, and my family for all their support. Go Tigers!”

Swartwout is a senior at Saint Anthony’s High School in Melville, NY. He swims year-round with Long Island Aquatic Club. He was runner-up in the 200 free (1:39.21) at the 2019 NYSPHSAA Federation Championships last March. He also contributed to a pair of state-champion freestyle relays, splitting 20.87 on the 4×50 free and 45.34 anchoring the 4×100 free. (He was DQd in the final of the 100 back after qualifying third out of prelims in 50.82.) Since the start of his senior year of high school he has already notched PBs in the 100 free, 100 back, 100 fly, and 400 IM. Last summer, Swartwout competed at Speedo Junior Nationals and made the 200m back final, going a best time of 2:04.89 in prelims to place 18th. He also earned a lifetime best in the 400m free with a 10.2-second year-over-year improvement to go 4:03.58. At the Metropolitan Swimming LSC Senior Long Course Championships, he placed in the top-5 of the 100/200 free, 100/200 back, and 400 IM and improved his lifetime bests in the 100 free (52.33), 200 free (1:54.61), 100 back (58.34), and 400 IM (4:38.46).

Swartwout’s best SCY times would have scored for the Tigers at 2019 Ivy League Men’s Championships in the 200 back (B final) and 200 free (C final).

Best times:

  • 200 back – 1:47.96
  • 100 back – 50.43
  • 200 free – 1:39.21
  • 100 free – 45.60
  • 400 IM – 4:01.20

*IVY LEAGUE DISCLAIMER: A “verbal commitment” by a coach is not an offer of admission, as only the Admissions Office has that authority. An Ivy League coach can only commit his or her support in the admissions process. Moreover, an Ivy League Likely Letter is not an offer of admission to the university.
