Steffen Deibler Pulls Out of German Nationals With Illness

In a press release, published earlier today, German swimming association (DSV) announced that Steffen Deibler will not be competing at the German Long Course National Championships in Berlin from April 9th-12th. The 27-year old Deibler has suffered an infection but his attendance at the World Championships in Kazan isnt’t endangered because he has been qualified before on the 100 fly as a member of the German “Elite Squad.”

Injury, illness and retirement have plagued the German roster since the 2014 World Short Course Championships in December. Steffen’s brother Markus broke a World Record at that meet and retired, and Yannick Lebherz has also withdrawn from the World Championship Trials.

The original press release, in German, is below:

Kassel/Berlin, 05. April 2015.

Maybe I am wrong but it looks more like Markus Deibler in the picture, his younger brother. Steffen has blonde hair.
