State New Zealand Short Course Championships Continue Despite Earthquakes

Wellington, New Zealand was struck by a magnitude 6.5 earthquake last Friday afternoon, and rattled further with at least 6 aftershocks of magnitude 5.0 or stronger.

The earthquakes led to a lot of building damage, especially near the epicenter, but no injuries were reported.

On Wednesday, Swimming New Zealand confirmed that the Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre was undamaged, and that the 2013 State New Zealand Short Course Championships to be hosted there at the end of September will continue unaffected.

The statement:

Swimming New Zealand would like to confirm that no damage has been done to the Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre during the recent earthquakes. The 2013 State New Zealand Short Course Championships will continue as planned from the 29th of September to the 3rd of October.
