STAR Swimming of Buffalo, NY, has hired T.J. Day as its new CEO and Head Swim Coach.
STAR has been around since 1961, and has won 30 of the past 34 Niagara Championships. Additionally, the team has sent seven swimmers to Olympic Trials (five in 2012 and one in 2016).
Day has been coaching at all levels for over 15 years, and most recently spent 4 years as the assistant swim coach at Carmel Swim Club in Carmel, Indiana. There, he coached for the 11-12 high performance squad as well as the the boys Senior High School Team.
Before his time in Carmel, Coach Day spent 10 years as the Head Coach of Boilermaker Aquatics in West Lafayette, Indiana. From 2003-2007, he served as a volunteer Assistant Coach at Purdue University. In 2006, Day voted by his peers the Indiana Swimming Senior Coach of the Year.
He has also served on the staff of many Indiana Swimming camps, and been on multiple trips to the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado. In addition, Day was on the staff of numerous Team Indiana Zone and Mid-States Quad Teams.
Day will be moving to town with his wife, who is originally from the area, and their children.
Top flight coach and an even better guy! Happy for my friend and happy for Niagara LSC
What happened to coach Rick who ran Star for years? Did they fire him?
Left without notice for a competing club in the area for a bigger pay day
Not correct. But it was a mutually good decision – good for both parties. Everyone is happy and landed in a good place.
We all wish TJ our best! He is a person
of great character and has a passion
for the sport of swimming! Thank you
for all of your contributions . You will
be missed!!!
It will be great to have a quality coach like TJ come to Niagara. I’m looking forward to seeing him on deck.
