St. John’s Legends Swim Club seeks Head Coach

JOB DESCRIPTION

St. John’s Legends Swim Club logoThe St. John’s Legends Swim Club, located in beautiful St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada is seeking an inspiring full time Head Coach with excellent leadership, technical expertise, communication and team building skills to coach and mentor our club of over 250 swimmers, 1 full time age group coach and 12 part time coaches. The Head Coach of the St. John’s Legends will also serve as the Head Coach of the Memorial University Varsity Swim Team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 10 years Head Coaching experience
  • NCCP Level III Coaching Certification preferably Level 4
  • Undergraduate degree – preferably in kinesiology or physical education
  • Current certification with NLS, CPR and First Aid
  • Chartered Professional Coach
  • Current member in good standing with CSCTA
  • Knowledge of the Hy-Tek Team and Meet Management software, team unify

DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership and communication skills
  • Technical training and coaching of one or more age groups
  • Develop, execute and oversee development program for all team coaches
  • Provide mentoring and in-service training to coaching staff
  • Possess expert knowledge in all technical aspects of competitive swimming
  • Help establish and manage criteria for movement between groups and set a developmental strategy for entire club
  • Submit monthly coaches report to the Board of Directors and be an active member of the board in all aspect of our operation.
  • Effective expense control and fiscal accountability
  • Distribute yearly, monthly and timely calendars to families
  • Plan effective and efficient pool and dry-land training schedule
  • Aid in the recruitment of new swimmers and administer assessments
  • Active participant with Swim NL
  • Ability to travel to local, regional, and national meets
  • Ability to provide a police background check

The Head Coach of the St. John’s Legends also serves as the Head Coach of the Memorial University Varsity Team.

In operation since 1978, the St. John’s Legends are the largest swim club in the Province of Newfoundland & Labrador. Holders of numerous provincial records the club swims out of the province’s only 8 lane 65 meter pool.
Our club’s primary purpose is to provide an opportunity for each of its members to attain his or her maximum potential ranging from pre competitive to aspiring Olympians. In 2015, the St. John’s Legends were the Top Team at the 2015 East Coast Short Course Champs, Provincial Short and Long Course Champs and most improved team at the Provincial Long Course Champs.
