The St. Bonaventure women’s swimming and diving team fell to the Youngstown State Penguins in the first dual meet of the season 186-112 on Friday night.
The Bonnies managed to win two individual events on the night. The first win came when Devon McFaddenwon the 100-yd backstroke.The sophomore touched the wall in a time of 59.88 just ahead of YSU’s Haley Fisher (1:00.34).
For the second win of the meet, Maria Rocchi won the 200-yd breastroke in a time of 2:30.5, just ahead of YSU’s Kolbrun Jonsdottir (2:31.15).
Although the Bonnies only managed to win two events, they captured seven second place finishes.
Coach Carlson was pleased with her teams performance, but knows they left some points in the pool. “We swam and dove well tonight, but we left a lot of points on the table” The second year coach said.
“We have to be a stronger team mentally and in the water, but it’s only our first meet. Plenty to work on through out the rest of the season.”
Carlson was especially pleased with a few standout performances “I was very impressed with sophomore Devon McFadden and freshmen Adele Ferris and Rachel Taylor, as well as a handful of others who had some solid swims.”
Next Up: The Bonnies will be back in the pool Saturday, Oct. 17th when they travel to Colgate for a 1:00pmstart.
